Rug hooking is a true North American craft that started in the mid-1800's along the eastern seaboard of the United States and Canada. It started out of necessity, to use up bits of old clothes to make coverings for cold floors!! These bits of clothes were woven into old feed sacks to make very practical floor coverings. Today, the tradition is carried on by faithful artists who have taken this simple craft and turned it into true art.
